Kate Middleton ditches BAFTAs all-black dress code for green Jenny Packham dress

The Duchess of Cambridge opted for a bottle green gown by Jenny Packham for the 2018 BAFTAs award show.

On Sunday night, the Duchess of Cambridge faced one of her greatest fashion challenges to date after a letter urged BAFTA attendees to wear all black in support of the #TimesUp movement.

But lending sartorial support to the movement that is fighting inequality and sexual harassment after allegations rocked the entertainment industry could be perceived as a breach of protocol, and the royal family must remain politically neutral at all times.

To side-step the issue, the 36-year-old chose a deep emerald green dress by Jenny Peckham that featured a dainty black ribbon waist.

The Duchess of Cambridge may have ignored the wear-all-black memo, but could her black ribbon have been a concession?

She accessorized with eye-catching jewels and her go-to pair of Prada wavy-cut suede heels.

William — who has been president of BAFTA since 2010 — and the Duchess of Cambridge took to the red carpet after the A-listers headed inside the Royal Albert Hall for the event. For last year’s star-studded awards night, the royal donned a cold-shoulder gown from Alexander McQueen’s resort 2016 line.

And the 36-year-old accessorized that evening look with the brand’s Heart Clasp Clutch Box and a pair of Prada’s wavy-cut heels (both of which sold out instantly).

The royal also looked to the Queen of England for a helping hand and borrowed her diamond wedding bracelet, which Prince Philip designed for his wedding to the queen in 1947.

For last year’s star-studded ceremony, the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a cold-shoulder gown by Sarah Burton’s Alexander McQueen.

It is the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has worn a label other than Alexander McQueen for the annual BAFTA event, and tonight proved the perfect opportunity to showcase her blossoming baby bump.

For a BAFTA reception back in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a lilac-hued gown by Alexander McQueen.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will welcome their third child in April.
